Go here http://www.windowslive.com/freshstart.html to get a new Windows Live ID. If you already have an MSN or Hotmail account you should still get a new Live ID. You can link the accounts if you want.
Then, go to http://www.windowslive.com/overview.html and get the Windows Live tools that you want. I highly recommend Windows Live Writer if you do blogs, Windows Live Photogallery and Windows Live Mail.

I love Writer, and I've grown to like live mail. I don't know whether I tried the photo gallery, but I already have an overabundance of them on this laptop, so I'll likely pass on adding another.
